Vision Statement

St Matthew's is a school family, where every member is valued, encouraged and cared for in a supportive environment.  Our school family is made up of many different cultures and faiths and we enjoy serving such a rich and diverse community.  This diversity helps prepare our children for life in the 21st century within our wonderfully multicultural city of Preston. We work very closely with our families, the St Matthew’s Church congregation and the local community and we encourage families to be fully involved in their child’s education.

“Be blessed by God, be happy and aspire to be...”

Mission Statement:
This is quite a historic statement that will be present in every Church of England School as it sums up the reason for the school actually being here!  Our vision statement (above) is our statement of how we 'live out' the mission statement.

The Mission Statement can be seen above the by the main entrance in school and it reads as follows:

"St Matthew's CE Primary School is dedicated to providing an education which enables every child to fulfil their best potential. It seeks to promote academic, emotional and spiritual growth in a Christian environment welcoming children drawn from diverse cultures."

In everything we do we seek to provide the very best for each child so that they can have every opportunity to learn well and develop a lifelong love of learning. Our work here is underpinned by our Mission Statement and reflected in our Vision Statement for all members of our school family.  We aim to engage and inspire all our pupils so they leave us at the end of Year 6 as confident, well rounded young people, who can ‘Be blessed, be happy and aspire to be….’  as they move on in their education.

Our provision not only aims to deliver an exciting curriculum, tailored to the needs of every child in school, but we also provide our children with opportunities and experiences beyond the normal timetable. We have many essential learning experiences, our ‘Curriculum Promises’,  woven into the wider education we provide for children, which go beyond the normal curriculum. We offer Outdoor Education activities with the team from Hothersall Lodge such as den building and fire making across the whole school, water and adventure activities on the Year 6 adventure trip, visits to the theatre for example to see the pantomime at Christmas.  We take children to visit to museums and have workshops bringing learning to life in History and Geography. Our Reception children get the opportunity to meet the Emergency Services and Year 2 children have the chance to hold animals and reptiles for Science if they are brave enough! We deliver safety and life skills session too such as Bikeability in year 5, swimming lessons in year 4 and Right Start road safety sessions in Key Stage 1. All these add up to something more than just the 3 Rs for our children.
